PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior middle blocker Kelsey Cave (Solon, Iowa/Solon) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after earning all-tournament honors at the season-opening Pepsi Panther Invitational in Milwaukee, Wis.

Cave averaged 3.64 kills per set, while hitting a blistering .545 in three outings and also collected 1.45 blocks per set.  She opened the season with a career-best 18 kills, while hitting .441 (18-3-34) and eight blocks to become the first Brave with more than 15 kills and at least eight blocks in a match since Lindsay Stalzer on Sept. 9, 2005.  Later that day, Cave hit .500 and tallied nine kills and six blocks in a sweep of Western Illinois.  On Saturday, she tied the school record for most kills (13) without a hitting error and her .812 attack percentage ranked second among Bradley match records in a sweep of Akron to help power Bradley to consecutive sweeps for the first time since 2003.  A community wellness major, Cave owns a 3.70 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Cave and the Bradley volleyball team are back in action this weekend in Fargo, N.D. at the North Dakota State Classic.  The Braves open tournament play Friday at 12:30 p.m. against Northern Illinois.
