Bradley Baseball Summer Update: Aug. 5, 2016

As the summer collegiate leagues are winding down their 2016 seasons, the latest Bradley Baseball Summer Update spans the country to provide recent highlights.

The progress of nine Braves in the Pros and 11 current Bradley Baseball players competing in summer collegiate leagues across the country has been updated throughout the summer. 

Braves in the Pros

Joe Bircher (2009-12), LHP
Sioux Falls Canaries, American Association of Independent Professional Baseball

Bircher was named the AAIPB Pitcher of the Week July 26 after allowing just two runs on five hits with 17 strikeouts in 13 innings spanning two starts during the previous week.  In his only appearances since being named Pitcher of the Week, Bircher turned in seven shutout innings in a no decision last Friday.  Although he is just 1-6, Bircher is second in the AAIPB with a 2.87 ERA in his 13 starts and he is working on a streak of 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings.

Matt Dennis (2014-16), RHP
Grand Junction Rockies (COL), Rookie Pioneer League

In 14 relief appearances, Dennis is 4-2 with a save and a 3.63 ERA.  He has allowed only one run in his last seven outings and in just three of his 14 total pro appearances.  Dennis has fanned 18 and issued only three walks in his 17.1 innings.  In his most recent outing, Dennis pitched 2.0 scoreless innings Thursday night to earn a "hold" in Grand Junction's 4-1 win against Missoula.

Chris Godinez (2012-15), IF
Staten Island Yankees (NYY), Class A Short Season New York-Penn League

After a successful stint as an injury replacement for the Charleston RiverDogs in the Class A South Atlantic League, Godinez returned to the Short Season Staten Island Yankees over the weekend and he has walked four times in his first six plate appearances back in the New York-Penn League.  In his eight games for the RiverDogs, Godinez hit .462 with 12 hits.  He has reached base safely in each of his last 14 starts.

Jason Leblebijian (2010-12), IF
New Hampshire Fisher Cats (TOR), Double-A Eastern League

Leblebijian continues to excel for the Fisher Cats and bumped his Double-A batting average in 52 games to .310 by doing 2-for-4 with a RBI in Thursday's 7-5 win against Akron.  Leblebijian now has played in 52 games at both the Class A Advanced (Dunedin) and Double-A levels this year and is batting .302 with 12 home runs and 47 RBI's overall this season.

Tyler Leffler (2013-16), IF
West Virginia Black Bears (PIT), Class A Short Season New York-Penn League

Leffler has played in just 11 games since the June draft and is batting .189 while playing primarily at second base.  He was 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Mahoning Valley.

Max Murphy (2012-14), OF
Fort Myers Miracle (MIN), Class A Advanced Florida State League

Murphy has remained on the 7-Day Disabled List since July 1, when he was 2-for-4 with a home run.  With two stints on the DL this year, Murphy has played in just 53 games between Cedar Rapids (18 games) and Fort Myers (35), batting .246 wtih five home runs and 20 RBI's.

Cameron Roegner (2012-16), LHP
Helena Brewers (MIL), Rookie Pioneer League

Roegner made his fourth appearance for Helena Thursday night, tossing the final four innings and allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits in a 6-3 loss at Orem.  To date, Roegner is 0-2 with a 4.80 ERA in four appearances spanning 15.0 innings for Helena.  In eight appearances so far this summer, Roegner is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 24.0 innings.

Rob Scahill (2006-09), RHP
Colorado Springs Sky Sox (MIL), Triple-A Pacific Coast League

Scahill appeared in three of the five games in a series against Oklahoma City, closing out wins in back-to-back games Monday and Tuesday.  Scahill now has appeared in seven games for Milwaukee's Triple-A affiliate since being claimed off of waivers from the Pirates with no record and a 5.40 ERA.

Mike Tauchman (2010-13), OF
Albuquerque Isotopes (COL), Triple-A Pacific Coast League

Tauchman was 1-for-5 with a run scored in Wednesday's 10-8 loss to Sacramento and now is batting .253 in 99 games for the Triple-A Isotopes this year.


Summer Collegiate Leagues
The summer collegiate circuit is winding down with several Braves making notable contributions to their summer teams.

Allan Beer, Jr., RHP/IF
Florence (SC) Redwolves, Coastal Plain League

Although Beer suffered the loss in Thursday's 4-1 loss to High Point-Thomasville, he has gotten stronger as the summer has progressed and now is 3-2 with a 4.29 ERA in 12 appearances.  In addition to his work on the mound, Beer has 16 at-bats this season and has produced six RBI's in his limited offensive opportunity.

Nick Green, Sr., IF
Bloomington (IL) Bobcats, Midwest Collegiate League

According to the stats posted by the Bloomington franchise, Green finished the season batting .250 in 30 games with a league-best 14 stolen bases.  Including three games not posted to the season stats, Green actually finished the summer with 18 stolen bases in 19 tries.

Luke Mangieri, So., IF
Martinsville (VA) Mustangs, Coastal Plain League

Mangieri is batting .271 in 38 games this summer and he is second on his team with 20 RBI's.

Ben Olson, So., LHP
North Adams SteepleCats, New England Collegiate Baseball League

Olson (4-1) finished the regular season sixth in the league with a 2.61 ERA and ended the season by allowing only three runs on seven hits in 17.0 innings to win his final three starts.

Eric Scheuermann, Sr., RHP
Edenton (NC) Steamers, Coastal Plain League

Scheuermann has appeared in 15 games this summer, including four starts, and is 2-3 with a 3.00 ERA in 36.0 innings.  Scheuermann also boasts 36 strikeouts against just seven walks this summer.

Andy Shadid, So., OF
Hays (KS) Larks, Jayhawk League

In 35 games this summer for the Larks, Shadid hit .202 with three home runs and 20 RBI's.
