Game Recap: Volleyball |
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sophomore Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) collected her second double-double of the year, tallying team highs of 18 kills, 10 digs and three blocks, but UMKC hit .315 as a team to top Bradley 26-24, 25-17, 25-17 Saturday afternoon to wrap up play at the Kangaroo Klassic.

The Braves (5-5 overall) finished second in the tournament to tournament-host UMKC (7-3 overall) with Haslag and senior middle blocker Kelsey Cave (Solon, Iowa/Solon) both earning spots on the Kangaroo Klassic All-Tournament team.

Haslag collected six kills in each of the three sets as she provided 18 of Bradley's 34 kills on the day and matched a season high for kills.

The first set featured 12 ties and six lead changes before the Kangaroos pulled out a 26-24 victory.  Back-to-back UMKC attack errors gave Bradley set point at 24-23, but three consecutive kills by Madison Mosier gave the Kangaroos the opening set 26-24.  Haslag had six kills with no errors in the first set.

UMKC grabbed control late in the second set, blowing open a four-point contest (19-15) with a 5-0 run.  Mykal Sadler and Alicia Harrington each had a pair of kills and combined for a block during the run which gave the Kangaroos set point at 24-15.  Harrington later finished off a 25-17 UMKC win with her sixth kill of the set as she helped the Kangaroos hit .361 in the frame.

A 4-1 spurt to start the third set gave UMKC an early lead and the Kangaroos never trailed in the stanza closing out the match with a 25-17 win.  The Braves trailed by four midway through (15-11), but Sadler had a kill and block to help the Kangaroos to four consecutive points.  UMKC hit .464 in the third, committing just two hitting errors.

Bradley returns to action Friday, opening Missouri Valley Conference play with a 6 p.m. (CST) match at Indiana State.
