Braves Take Third; Bushong Ties For Fourth At Derek Dolenc

MADISON, Ill. -- Sophomore Drake Bushong (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) tied for fourth and junior Ethan Brue (Chandlerville, Ill./AC Central/Illinois Central) fired a two-under 69 Tuesday to help lead the Bradley men's golf team to a third-place finish at the fourth annual Derek Dolenc Invitational.

Bushong earned his third top-10 finish of the young season and 10th of his career, pacing the Braves for the first time in 2016-17. He fired a three-over 74 at the par-71 Gateway National Golf Links in Tuesday's final round to finish at two-over 215 and was nine shots off the individual lead.

Bradley turned in the second-lowest team score of the day at nine-over 293 to move up in the team standings into third overall at 880. The Braves finished three shots behind second-place SIU Edwardsville (877) and five shots back of team champion Missouri State (875). Bradley was three shots better than fourth-place Northern Iowa (883) in the 15-team field.

While Bushong led the Braves in the two-day event, Brue had the low round of the day at two-under 69 as he matched his low round of the season. Brue broke into the top 10, closing the event in a tie for eighth at 217 and has now shot 70 or better in the final round of all three tournaments this year as he earned his third top-10 finish of the season.

Sophomore Branden Mounce (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley/Illinois State) was two shots behind Brue in a tie for 12th at 219, posting a final round 73.

Junior Zach Jewell (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone/Illinois Central) fired a 77 Tuesday and tied for 60th overall (234), while senior Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) completed the team scoring for the Braves in a tie for 74th (241) after a final-round score of 87.

Junior Matthew Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) was in the field as an individual and edged Jacobs by one shot (240 - T72nd) as he finished out play with a third-round 83.

The Bradley men's golf team returns to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Zach Johnson Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.
