Game Recap: Volleyball |
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Sophomore Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) had a season-best 18 kills, while hitting .417 for the match and helped the Braves hit .350 as a team in a 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 sweep at South Dakota State Sunday afternoon.

Bradley (3-4 overall) played its fourth match in a three-day stretch and came away with its third three-set victory of the year.  The Braves had not had more than two three set wins in a season since 2013 (6).

Haslag tallied seven of her match and season-high 18 kills in the first set and came away with an impressive eight kills in the third and final stanza.  She was joined in double figures by junior Taylor Thiele (Aurora, Neb./Aurora), who added 11 kills for her highest kill total since the 2015 season opener.

The Braves hit a blistering .412 in the first set en route to a 25-21 win.  South Dakota State led 18-16, when Thiele helped highlight a 6-1 Bradley run with a pair of kills to give the Braves a 22-19 advantage.  Thiele had seven kills in the opening set and later added consecutive kills to give Bradley set point at 24-20.  A South Dakota State service error closed out the 25-21 win for the Braves.

Senior Kelsey Cave (Solon, Iowa/Solon) helped Bradley take control of the second set midway through with back-to-back kills to start a 6-0 spurt, which gave the Braves a 18-14 lead.  South Dakota State cut the deficit to two on several occasions before a Thiele kill put Bradley in front 23-20.  A South Dakota State attack error gave the Braves set point (24-20) and sophomore Allison Turner (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) finished off another 25-21 Bradley win with a kill.

South Dakota State was in front 17-15 in the third set, when Haslag helped power Bradley to victory.  Haslag had three kills during a 5-0 Bradley run, which also included a block by Cave and junior Afton Sobasky (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) as the Braves grabbed a 20-17 advantage.  The Jackrabbits got no closer than two points down the stretch and Haslag's 18th kill of the day capped a 25-20 Bradley victory as the Braves completed the sweep.

Bradley returns to action Friday, opening play at the Kangaroo Klassic in Kansas City, Mo., with a 10 a.m. contest against Nebraska-Omaha.
