CHESTERTON, Ind. – The Bradley men's golf team followed up an opening round 291 with a three-under 288 and the Braves lead the field after 36 holes at the season-opening Crusader Collegiate.
Bradley had a two-shot advantage in the four-team field after shooting a 291 in Tuesday's first round.  The Braves were even better in the afternoon, stretching the lead to 18 shots with a three-under 288 to tie the 11th lowest round in program history.

Tournament-host Valparaiso is second in the field at 597 behind Bradley's 36-hole score of 579.  The Braves are 25 shots better than third-place Wright State (604) and Detroit completes the field in fourth at 623.

Juniors Ethan Brue (Chandlerville, Ill./AC Central/Illinois Central) and Zach Jewell (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone/Illinois Central) share the individual lead in the clubhouse at even par.  Brue matched the lowest round for a Bradley men's golfer in their first round as a Brave with a three-under 69 in the first round.  He fired a 75 in the afternoon to close the day at 144.

After missing the entire spring 2016 spring season due to an injury, Jewell returned to the lineup to fire a 73 in the opening round and was one of three Bradley players to shoot one-under 71 in the second round as he matched Brue's 36-hole score (144).

Sophomore Drake Bushong (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) is just one shot out of the lead in a tie for third with Zach Cutler of Valparaiso at 145.  Bushong chased a first-round 74 with a one-under 71 in the second round.

Valparaiso native Bobby Jacobs (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) is also in contention at 146, firing a 75 and then matching a career-best with a one-under 71 for his lowest round since the 2013-14 season to close Tuesday's action tied for fifth.

Sophomore Branden Mounce (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley/Illinois State) made his debut as a Brave and is 19th to round out the team scoring for Bradley.  Mounce rebounded from a first-round 80 to shoot a 77 in the afternoon and is three shots out of the top 10 at 157 heading into the final round.

The Braves also have three individuals in the field, paced by sophomore Michael Mounce (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley/Illinois State), who is tied for 10th.  Michael is three shots ahead of his brother at 154 after rounds of 79 and 75.

Sophomore Sam Range (Waterloo, Ill./Gibault Catholic) is also in the field as an individual and finished the day in 16th (155), opening play with a 79 and tying a career-best with a second-round 76.  Junior Matthew Specht (Munster, Ind./Munster) is tied for 22nd overall individually at 161, turning in scores of 81 and 80 Tuesday.
