PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley Volleyball head coach
Carol Price-Torok added two more individuals to the 2017 roster with Thursday's announcement that 6-0 setter/outside hitter Hannah Angeli (Maplewood, Minn./Hill-Murray School/Nebraska-Omaha) and 6-0 middle blocker Alissa Schovanec (La Vista, Neb./Papillion-La Vista/Iowa Western) have both transferred to Bradley for the 2017 Spring semester.
Angeli comes to The Hilltop after playing her freshman season at Nebraska-Omaha, where she started 18 of 25 matches she appeared in and will have three years of eligibility remaining. She was second for the Mavericks with 23 aces and her 0.26 aces-per-set average was fifth in the Summit League this past fall. Used primarily as an outside hitter, Angeli averaged 2.83 digs per set (second on the team) to rank 10th in the conference and also tallied 1.58 kills per set in 2016.
A two-time first-team all-state selection at Hill-Murray School, Angeli was a four-time all-conference performer and a two-year captain. She led the Metro East Conference in assists and aces her senior season and helped lead Hill-Murray School to a pair of top-three state finishes during her prep career, including a second-place showing in 2013. A two-time team MVP, Angeli finished her career with school career records for both aces and assists. At the club level, she helped her team to third-place finishes at both the USJO and AAU Nationals in 2014 and second-place finish at 2013 AAU Nationals.
"Hannah comes with Division I experience as well as a high pedigree of club ball," said Price-Torok. "We are excited to get her in the gym and have her lead our offense. Her setting style is something we have been looking for and she should be a great fit with our team."
Schovanec was a two-time First-Team Academic All-Region performer at Iowa Western and helped the Reivers to a second-place national finish this past fall. In her two years at Iowa Western her team posted a 79-13 overall record. This fall, she averaged 2.11 kills per set, while attacking at a .333 clip and was second on the team in blocks per set at 0.91.
As a freshman she paced Iowa Western in blocks per set (0.93) in addition to averaging 1.52 kills per set, while helping guide Iowa Western to a 42-8 overall record. A four-year letterwinner at Papillion-La Vista, she helped the Monarchs to three Class A Nebraska School Activities Association Elite Eight appearances, including a third-place state finish her senior year.
"Alissa gives up great depth at middle blocker and we are excited to see what she can bring to our program," added Price-Torok. "She comes from a very successful junior college program, which continues to be one of the top programs in the country. Her experience along with her ability will continue to help strengthen our squad."
Both Angeli and Schovanec along with San Jose State transfer Yavianliz Rosado (Morovis, Puerto Rico/Colegio Carmen Sol) will join the Braves for the 2017 Spring semester. Fall National Letter of Intent signee Ezri Edwards (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) closed out her prep volleyball career and will join the trio on Bradley's 2017 roster.
