Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
SPRINGFIELD, MO – Junior Donte Thomas and freshman Jayden Hodgson both scored a season-high in points but it wasn't enough as Missouri State held on despite a late BU charge, 76-62. The Bears improve to 14-7 overall and 5-3 in Missouri Valley play, while the Braves are now 8-13 and 3-5 versus league foes.

Thomas scored a season-best 17 points for Bradley, connecting on 7-of-8 field goals, to also go with a team-best seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Hodgson posted his career-high total with 16 points, making 5-of-12 field goals and 4-of-7 from 3-point range.

Freshman Darrell Brown recorded a game-high four assists, while classmate Koch Bar matched Thomas with seven rebounds to lead BU.

Missouri State started the contest hot from 3-point range and grabbed a double-digit lead before the teams hit the midway point of the first half. The Bears made five of their first nine attempts from beyond the arc (of six field goals made) and their lead reached 11 with 10:27 remaining, 20-9. Bradly cut its deficit to four, 24-20 but an 8-1 run keyed a strong finish for the Bears, who headed into the halftime break with a 41-31 advantage.

The Bears made 6-of-15 3-point attempts to highlight a 38.9 percent shooting first half, while holding the Braves to just 29.2 percent shooting in the opening 20 minutes of action.

The Missouri State advantage reached 16 points just under five minutes into the second stanza, 51-35. However, Thomas keyed a Bradley run to get the team back into the game as BU used a 20-8 stretch over the next 8:45 to pull within four, 59-55, with 6:32 left in regulation. Thomas scored 10 of the team's 20 points during the run with Bar finishing a layup attempt, while getting fouled for the four-point contest.

However, Bar couldn't complete the three-point play and Bradley came up empty on its next two possessions before a late 10-0 run by the Bears secured the eventual 14-point victory.

Overall, Bradley finished with a shooting effort of 35.8 percent, including a 6-of-19 mark from 3-point range, while the Bears hit on 42.6 percent of their shots and 9-of-22 3-point attempts.

Dequon Miller led all scorers in the game with 24 points for Missouri State.

Bradley continues on the road on Wednesday with a matchup at Loyola Chicago. First tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. can be seen live on ESPN3.
