Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
EVANSVILLE, IN – The Bradley men's basketball team made 50.0 percent of its shots and held host Evansville to just 23.5 percent as the Braves earned a 74-63 victory at Ford Center on Wednesday night. The win moves BU to 2-1 in Missouri Valley Conference action and 7-9 overall, while the Purple Aces suffered their first home defeat of the season to drop to 10-6 and 1-2 against conference foes.

Junior JoJo McGlaston scored a career-best 24 points, making 7-of-11 shots on the night. Freshman Darrell Brown chipped in 11 points, while junior Donte Thomas and freshman Koch Bar anchored a solid defensive performance with eight rebounds each.

The Braves started the contest strong, hitting four of their first six shots to gain an early 9-3 advantage. Evansville slowly chipped away at the Bradley lead and a back-and-forth first half featured seven ties and six lead changes before BU headed into the intermission with a 34-32 edge.

With the scored knotted at 36 early in the second stanza, Thomas and McGlaston scored a quick four points to give Bradley a lead it would never relinquish. Evansville stayed within striking distance for much of the half, eventually pulling within three, 58-55. However, McGlaston scored the next five points to push the BU advantage to eight and ignited a 9-1 run that put Bradley ahead, 67-56, with just 2:55 remaining in regulation.

The Braves would make nine of their final 10 free-throw attempts in the closing minutes of the game to secure the 74-63 victory and move to 2-1 in conference play.

Bradley shot 50.0 percent in the winning effort, while making 6-of-19 3-point attempts and 16-of-20 from the free throw line. The 23.5 percent shooting for the Purple Aces is the lowest by a Bradley opponent since 2000 and the ninth-lowest in school history.

The Purple Aces received 58.7 percent of their scoring on the night from the free-throw line, hitting 37-of-46 from the charity stripe.

The Braves look to continue their winning ways on Saturday with a home contest against Loyola Chicago. First tip at Carver Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
