Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
PEORIA, IL - Milton Doyle scored 35 points and Loyola shot 58 percent from the floor to earn a 78-62 victory over the Bradley men's basketball team on Saturday night. Both teams move to 2-2 in Missouri Valley Conference action with the Ramblers improving to 12-5 overall and the Braves dropping to 7-10.

Freshmen Darrell Brown and Nate Kennell led the team in scoring for the third time in four Missouri Valley Conference games, scoring 19 and 17 points, respectively. The 17 points are a career-best total for Kennell as the rookie made 5-of-8 field goals and 3-of-4 3-point attempts.

The Ramblers' hot-shooting started from the opening whistle as Loyola scored on five of its first six possessions to race out to a 15-2 lead. The Braves would fight back and pulled within two, 27-25, after a 13-4 run. However, Loyola responded with a 3-pointer on back-to-back possessions to quickly push the lead back to eight, 33-25. The Ramblers then finished the first half on a 9-2 run to take a 44-31 lead into the break.

Loyola made 57.1 percent of its shots in the opening 20 minutes of action, including an 8-of-14 mark from behind the 3-point line. Doyle scored 24 of his 35 points in the first half by making 8-of-10 field goals and 4-of-5 3-pointers.

In the second stanza, Loyola scored the first 10 points to expand its lead to 23, 54-31. Bradley would pull as close as 13 before the Ramblers secured the 78-62 victory.

The Ramblers connected on 58.3 percent of their shots in the second stanza to finish with a 57.7 percent game. Loyola also made 10-of-21 shots from beyond the arc, while the Braves made 43.1 percent of their field goals and 6-of-18 from 3-point range.

The Braves look to quickly regroup with a home game against Northern Iowa on Wednesday. The schools are set to meet at Carver Arena, beginning at 8 p.m.
