PEORIA, IL – UIC scored one goal in each half to earn a 2-1 victory at Shea Stadium over the Bradley soccer team on Tuesday night. The Flames improve to 6-5-3 on the year, while the Braves drop to 8-6-1.
 
In the opening frame, UIC grabbed its first lead of the day in the 28th minute when Abel Guzman netted his second goal of the season. Guzman finished a cross from close range at the near post for the 1-0 lead at the break.
 
The Braves squared the contest at one thanks to Frank Bak's third goal of the campaign. Off a corner kick from freshman Younes Dayekh, Bak gathered the ball at the far corner of the 18-yard box. The junior then fired a shot that curled in at the near post for the 1-1 game in the 57th minute.
 
The Flames, however, wouldn't waste much time in responding. Off a corner kick of its own, Jacob Graiber knocked the ball in from close range for the 2-1 advantage just 3:05 later in the 60th minute.
 
The Braves pressed on for the equalizing tally and nearly had it in the 67th minute when an open header from Gerit Wintermeyer went just high. The Flames would then hold on from there for the 2-1 winning margin.
 
Bradley finished the contest with a slight edge in shots, 11-10, and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
The Braves return to Missouri Valley Conference action on Saturday with a road contest at Loyola Chicago. First kick is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
