Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Yavianliz Rosado broke her own school record for digs in a three-set match with 26, while fellow junior Erica Haslag added 14 kills to lead Bradley, but Drake held off Braves 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 Friday night at Renaissance Coliseum in the first contest of a two-match home stand for BU.

Rosado had collected a then school-record for digs in a three-set match with 23 earlier this fall in a sweep of UConn back on Sept. 15 and broke her own school record with 26 digs in the three-set contest against Drake (20-6 overall, 9-3 MVC) Friday in Bradley's first home match since Oct. 7.

Haslag helped pace Bradley (9-17 overall, 2-10 MVC) offensively with 14 kills as she pushed her MVC-leading kill total to 436 kills and now owns the eighth-best season kill total in program history.

Drake took control of the first set with a 7-1 run to open the contest as the Braves fell behind by as many as eight points (15-7) before storming back.  Sophomore Hannah Angeli had a pair of kills and a block, while Haslag had a kill and ace during a 5-1 Bradley spurt which trimmed the deficit to four.  The Braves would eventually pull within two at 20-18 on back-to-back kills by sophomore Kathryn Graf.  Cathryn Cheek answered with a kill for Drake, however, and added two more down the stretch as the Bulldogs went on take the opener 25-20.

Rosado tallied 13 of her match-high 26 digs in the opening set to help Bradley to 24 digs in the frame.  Haslag found the floor with five of her team-best 14 kills in the first stanza.

In the second set, junior Alissa Schovanec highlighted a 4-0 Bradley run with a block and kill as she helped the Braves build an 11-6 advantage.  Drake chipped away at Bradley's lead to pull even at 17-17 and the score was later knotted again at 21-21 following a block by Graf and Haslag.  The Bulldogs grabbed a 22-21 lead on a block and a Bradley error made it a two-point cushion at 23-21.  Drake held set point 24-21 on a Gillian Gergen kill and eventually closed out a 25-22 win on a kill by Grace Schofield.

After falling behind by five points (11-6) midway through the third set, Bradley rallied with three consecutive points on kills by Schovanec and Haslag along with a Drake error to pull within two at 11-9.  The Bulldogs led 15-12 after one of Haslag's seven third-set kills, only to extend the advantage to six (18-12) with three straight points on Bradley errors.  The Braves got within three points at 20-17 on a Drake error before the Bulldogs put the finishing touches on a sweep with a 25-18 win.  Drake hit .294 in the third.

Haslag was the only Bradley player in double figures in kills with 14, while senior Jamie Livaudais added nine kills of her own.  Angeli became the first Bradley player with 1,000 assists in a season since 2011, finishing one dig short of her 19th double-double of the year (30 assists & 9 digs).

Bradley closes out a two-match home stand Sunday with a noon match against 25th-ranked Northern Iowa.  A free youth clinic for children ages 6-14 will be held following Sunday's outing against the Panthers at Renaissance Coliseum.
