PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore runner Jake Hoffert (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after winning the individual title and helping the Bradley men's cross country to the team crown at the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championship Saturday.

Hoffert became the first Bradley runner in 52 years to claim individual gold at the MVC Men's Cross Country Championship, finishing first at the conference meet on Saturday in Springfield, Mo.  Hoffert ran the 8K course in 24:37.87 to become just the second BU man to win the individual title and the first since Rod Collins in 1965. The 2017 MVC Male Athlete of the Year, Hoffert also led the Braves to their third-straight team championship at the conference meet.  A manufacturing engineering major, Hoffert owns a 3.67 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Hoffert and the Bradley men's cross country team, which rose to fifth in the latest USTFCCCA Midwest Region rankings, return to action Friday, Nov. 10 at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Ames, Iowa.
