Game Recap: Volleyball |
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Sophomore Hannah Angeli turned in her team-best 15th double-double of the year and Bradley had four players reach double figures in kills paced by Eria Haslag's team-high 18, but Evansville squeaked out a 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 15-11 victory over the Braves Monday at Meeks Fieldhouse.

Fresh off the team's first five-set victory after falling behind two-sets-to-none since 2011, Bradley (8-14 overall, 1-7 MVC) found itself in another five-set contest Monday night to kick off a four-set Missouri Valley Conference road swing.

Angeli collected her team-best 15th double-double as she finished with seven kills, 51 assists, two aces, 12 digs and three blocks.  Haslag added a double-double of her own, her 12th of the season, with 18 kills and 14 digs.

Sophomore Kathryn Graf followed up her career-high 18 kills Saturday against Loyola with 13 kills, while freshman Ezri Edwards matched her season-high set just two days ago with another 11 kills.  Junior Yavianliz Rosado led five Bradley individuals in double figures in digs with a career-best 33 for the highest dig total by a Brave since 2013.  Rosado's 33 digs tied for the sixth-best performance in school history.

Graf and Edwards helped power Bradley to a 25-23 opening set victory with the duo combining for nine kills with just one error.  Edwards broke a 22-22 tie with her fourth kill of the set and an Evansville (7-12 overall, 1-6 MVC) attack error gave the Braves a 24-22 advantage.  Graf and Haslag followed a Purple Aces kill with a block to give Bradley the first set 25-23.

Another close contest in the second featured five lead changes and 12 ties.  Evansville pulled even at 21-21 on a Gabriele Dos Santos kill and a Bradley error gave the Aces a 22-21.  Another Dos Santos kill pushed the UE advantage to 23-21.  The Braves got within a point at 23-22 on an Evansville service error, but the Purple Aces were able to even the match at one set each with a 25-23 second-set victory.

Bradley led 13-11 in the third set, but five errors by the Braves fueled a 7-0 Evansville run which put the Aces in front 18-13.  BU chipped away at the Evansville advantage to get within two points at 24-22 on a block by Haslag and junior Alissa Schovanec.  The Purple Aces ended the late Bradley run to take the third set 25-22 on a Dos Santos kill.

An 8-1 Bradley run in the fourth helped the Braves force a deciding fifth set.  With the score tied at 16-16, Bradley forced three consecutive UE errors to go in front 19-16.  Evansville stopped the spurt with a block, only to have the Braves rattle off four more points.  Angeli had a kill and block, in addition to assisting back-to-back Haslag kills as the Braves held set point at 24-17.  Haslag eventually put the finishing touches on a 25-19 BU victory with her sixth kill of the set.

In the fifth set, Bradley jumped out to an early 5-2 advantage before Evansville answered with five consecutive points of its own.  The Purple Aces later extended the lead to four points at 10-6 and held a 12-7 edge on back-to-back Mildrelis Rodriguez kills.  An Evansville service error and kill by Angeli once again made it a two-point contest at 13-11, but Evansville scored the next two points to take the set 15-11 and win the match.

Rosado's 33 digs pushed her season total to 451, which ranks eighth among Bradley season marks.

Bradley continues a four-match Missouri Valley Conference road swing Friday with a 7 p.m. match at I-74 rival Illinois State.
