Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Yavianliz Rosado had a team-high 18 digs to break the Bradley season digs record and fellow junior Erica Haslag led the Braves offensively with 18 kills, but I-74 rival Illinois held off BU for a 25-17, 27-29, 25-21, 25-21 victory Saturday night at Renaissance Coliseum.

Rosado broke Bradley's season digs record of 606, which was set by Stacey Besjak during the 1985 campaign, on the final point of the night as she finished the evening with a team-best 18 digs.

Haslag was one of two Braves to turn in double-doubles, tallying 18 kills and 13 digs for her 16th double-double of the season.  Sophomore Hannah Angeli added her team-best 21st double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs to help highlight the night for Bradley.

Illinois State hit .333 in the first set, but needed a late run to pull out a 25-17 victory.  Bradley took a 16-14 lead on an Alissa Schovanec kill before the Redbirds answered with eight consecutive points.  Juma Armando notched four kills during the run and three Illinois State aces down the stretch helped ISU take the opener.

Bradley was the team to rally in the second set after falling behind by as many five points at 22-17.  Angeli sparked a 5-0 run by the Braves with a kill and sophomore Kathryn Graf added a block and kill during the spurt which knotted the score at 22-22.  With Illinois State holding set point (24-23), Graf had a kill to pull Bradley even at 24-24.  The Braves later held off two more Illinois State set points with kills by Schovanec and freshman Michaela Hoffa to tie the score at 26-26.  Bradley had a pair of set points at 27-26 and again at 28-27 after kills by Haslag.  Rosado put the finishing touches on the 29-27 victory with Bradley's third ace of the stanza.

Illinois State led by as many seven points (12-5) in the third set, but Bradley would rally.  Graf had a kill and a block, while Hoffa, who had three kills in the third and eight in the match, added two of her own as the Braves chipped away at the Redbird lead to pull within one at 17-16.  Bradley eventually tied things up at 20-20 on three consecutive ISU errors.  Illinois State answered with three consecutive kills of its own, however, and went on to take the set 25-21.

Haslag broke out offensively in the fourth, notching eight kills and six digs in the frame.  Back-to-back Haslag kills and a Graf slam on an ISU overpass gave Bradley a 19-17 advantage.  The lead was short lived as Illinois State answered with three consecutive points.  Senior Taylor Thiele tied the score at 20-20 on her third kill of the set, but ISU's Jaelyn Keene had two kills during a 4-0 ISU spurt which gave the Redbirds match point at 24-20.  Bradley forced an attack error to keep the match going, only to have Ella Francis find the floor with a kill as Illinois State posted another 25-21 victory to seal the match.

Bradley continues the final home stand of the 2017 season Friday with a 7 p.m. match against Evansville at Renaissance Coliseum.
