Braves Cruise Past Missouri S&T, 79-47

Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team dominated inside to run away with a 79-47 victory against Missouri S&T on Wednesday night at Carver Arena. With the win, the Braves improve to 5-1 and equal their best start to a season in the last 32 years.
 
Sophomore Nate Kennell led the Braves with 18 points in the winning effort to go with five assists. Freshman Elijah Childs added a career-best 14 points – making all seven of his field goals – while leading the Braves with eight rebounds. Senior JoJo McGlaston also reached double figures for BU with 10 points.
 
Freshman Ryan Stipanovich matched his classmate with a game-high eight rebounds, while sophomore Darrell Brown paced the Bradley attack with a career-best seven assists.
 
 
The Braves defense and inside game once again dominated the contest. Bradley twice forced field goal droughts of at least 10 minutes as Missouri S&T didn't make a single basket in the final 10 minutes of either half. With the Miners ahead, 12-8, with 14:00 left in the first half, Bradley used a 30-5 run to head into the locker room with a 38-17 advantage.
 
Bradley forced Missouri S&T into missing its final 10 shots from the field in the first half to go along with seven turnovers during the stretch. Overall, the Braves took advantage of 28-11 rebounding advantage to own a 20-4 edge in the paint during the opening 20 minutes of action.
 
The second half copied the script of the first stanza as Bradley once again dominated the paint to the tune of 24-10. The Miners would last be within 20 with the score at 54-35 with 11:01 remaining but Bradley would once again force Missouri S&T to miss its final 10 shots of the half en route to the 32-point victory.
 
Overall, Bradley finished the game with a 51-28 advantage in rebounds, claiming the battle in the paint, 44-14. Bradley posted a 46.4 field goal percentage in the winning effort, while holding the Miners to just 30.0 percent.
 
Bradley looks to continue its strong start to the season when it hosts 5-1 Georgia Southern on Saturday. First tip at Carver Arena is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Game Notes: Bradley's 5-1 start matches the program's best since a 6-0 record during the 1985-86 season … Kennell has led the team in scoring three times through six games after not doing so once as a rookie last year … Childs is the 18th Brave in school history to make all seven of his field goals or more in a game and the first since Andrew Warren versus Maryland Eastern Shore on Nov. 18, 2007 … Bradley also held a 41-3 advantage in bench points in the winning effort … The Braves have not allowed a team to score 70 points in any of their first six games of the season for the first time since the 1958-59 season … The 47 points allowed by the Braves were the fewest since a 63-44 victory against Southern Illinois on Jan. 3, 20015 … Bradley registered 23 assists in a game for the first time since also recording 23 against Evansville on Jan. 19, 2008 … The game was officially the last contest of the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase for the Braves as the team went 3-1 during the in-season tournament.
