Game Recap: Volleyball |
CHICAGO, Ill. – For the fifth time in the last eight contests Bradley went to a deciding fifth set, but the Braves couldn't pull out a victory Friday at Loyola as the Ramblers rallied for a 25-16, 21-25, 12-25, 25-17, 15-9 victory at Gentile Arena.

Bradley (9-19 overall, 2-12 MVC) played its eighth five-set match of the season Friday for the most five-set matches by the Braves since 2013.  Junior Erica Haslag had a match-high 14 kills and added 18 digs and career-best five aces for her 15th double-double of the season.  Senior Jamie Livaudais joined Haslag in double figures in kills with 10 or her own.

Loyola (3-21 overall, 2-11 MVC) hit .323 in the first set and posted a 25-16 victory behind seven first-set kills by Heather Kocken.  Bradley was within striking distance at 18-15, when back-to-back kills by Haley Hoffman sparked a 7-1 Rambler run to end the frame.  Hoffman added one more kill down the stretch and Kocken added three kills of her own during the closing spurt.

After committing 10 attack errors in the first set, Bradley forced 11 Loyola attack errors in the second.  The Braves raced out to a commanding 11-2 lead, but the Ramblers rallied to pull even at 12-12 with an 8-0 spurt.  Bradley went back in front 14-12 on kills by Haslag and sophomore Kathryn Graf.  With the Braves owning a 22-20 advantage, Livaudais found the floor with a kill to give BU a three-point edge (23-20) and Bradley had set point at 24-20 after a Rambler error.  Another Loyola error closed out a 25-21 win for the Braves to even the match.

Haslag served up three of her career-best five aces during an early 7-0 Bradley run in the third to help the Braves to an 8-2 lead.  The 7-0 run was part of a larger 11-1 run which pushed the BU advantage to 12-3.  Haslag had three kills and three aces during the opening salvo as Bradley cruised to a 25-12 third-set win.  Livaudais notched four of her 10 kills on just seven swings in the third set.

Bradley hit .348 as a team in the fourth, but Loyola hit .409 and added seven aces in the set.  Loyola took control of the stanza midway through with a 5-0 run, which included a pair of kills by Gabi Maciagowski to give the Ramblers a 13-9 edge.  Haslag stopped the Loyola run one of her five fifth-set kills, only to have the Ramblers answer with three more points as the Braves trailed 16-10.  Bradley chipped away at the deficit and pulled within one at 18-17 on another Haslag kill.  Loyola rattled off seven consecutive points, however, as Quinn Spieker served up three aces during the spurt to close out a 25-17 Rambler win.

Midway through the fifth set, Bradley trailed 9-8 following a Livaudais kill.  Loyola, which hit .353 in the deciding frame, scored the next four points and went on to win the set 15-9 to take the match in five.

Haslag's match-high 14 kills pushed her season kill total to 465, which is tied with Betsy Buckhold for the sixth-best season kill total in Bradley history.

The Braves will play the final road match on the 2017 regular-season schedule Saturday with a 7 p.m. contest at MVC newcomer Valparaiso.
