Ally Scaccia and sophomore
Chloe Horton both fired four-over 76's on the opening day of play at the 15
th annual Rio Verde Invitational and the Bradley women's golf team is tied for 10
th in the 19-team field following Friday's action.
Horton and Scaccia head into Saturday's second round one shot out of the top 20 and just two from the top 10 after they each carded four-over 76 at the Rio Verde County Club's par-72 White Wing Golf Course. The duo helped the Braves shoot 311 as a team and close the day tied with Arkansas-Little Rock for 10
th. Bradley is five shots out of a three-way tie for fourth overall after 18 holes.
Junior
Grace Henderson turned in a 79 Friday and is tied for 50
th, edging out freshman
Taylor Ledwein who shot an 80 and is tied for 60
th. The opening-round 80 snapped a streak of 15 consecutive sub-80 rounds for Ledwein, which is the second longest streak by a Bradley freshman and sixth longest in program history.
Sophomore
Frankie Saban completed the team scoring for Bradley with a first-round 84 and is tied for 89
th in the field. Fellow sophomore
Brooke Thompson is playing as an individual and matched her lowest round of the spring with an 81 to close Friday's round in a tie for 68
th.
UMKC has a five-shot lead on the field after carding a 295 Friday and the Kangaroos are followed by Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois, which are tied for second at 300. Bradley's 311 is tied for 10
th with Arkansas-Little and two back of a tie between Arkansas State and Central Arkansas for eighth (309). The Braves are three behind seventh-place Ball State (308) and five from a three-way tie for fourth between Northern Arizona, Wichita State and Akron.
