PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior outfielder
Kelly Kapp (Freeburg, Ill./Gibault Catholic) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping Bradley Softball to a 3-2 record at last week's Beehive Classic in Cedar City, Utah.
Kapp hit .611 (11-for-18) with nine runs, nine stolen bases along with a .650 on base percentage and one RBI, collecting multiple hits in four of the five games to extend her hit streak to a season-best 11 games. Kapp opened the week with a 3-for-4 effort with a stolen base and two runs scored against Utah State. In Saturday's games, Kapp was a combined 5-for-8 with four runs, four stolen bases and one RBI, helping highlight a 10-1, five-inning victory over Wagner by going 3-for-4 with two runs, one RBI and two stolen bases. She followed that by going 2-for-4 with two runs and two steals in a 4-1 win against tournament-host Southern Utah. In Sunday's 4-0 blanking of Utah State, Kapp drew two walks and was 1-for-1 with two runs and a career-high four stolen bases. She closed out the weekend by going 2-for-5 with a run in a 10-7 setback to Southern Utah. A nursing major, Kapp owns a 3.10 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Kapp and the Bradley softball team open the Missouri Valley Conference schedule this weekend with a three-game series at Southern Illinois. The Braves and Salukis play a noon doubleheader Saturday in Carbondale, Ill., before wrapping up the set Sunday with a single game at 11 a.m.
