BEAUMONT, Texas – Junior
Ally Scaccia is tied for fifth and is one of four Braves in the top nine in the individual standings as the Bradley women's golf team is second overall after 18 holes at the 2017 Cardinal Challenge.
Bradley shot a 303 Friday to close the first day of the Cardinal Challenge in second, 10 shots behind tournament-host Lamar (293). The Braves own a seven-shot lead on third-place Indiana State in the nine-team field and Bradley is nine shots ahead of Texas-Rio Grande Valley and Southern Illinois, which are tied for fourth after opening round 312's.
Scaccia is the leader in the clubhouse for Bradley after firing a four-over 75 in the first round at the par-71 Beaumont County Club. The 75 was Scaccia's 21
st sub-80 round of the year and the 62
nd of her career as she enters Saturday's second round tied for fifth overall.
A trio of Braves are tied for ninth overall in the individual standings after shooting five-over 76 Friday. Freshman
Taylor Ledwein, sophomore
Frankie Saban and junior
Grace Henderson each shot 76 on the opening day. Ledwein turned in her team-best 22
nd sub-80 round of the year with the 76, while Henderson was in the 70's for the seventh time in her last eight rounds. The 76 was Saban's seventh round of 78 or better this spring (10 rounds).
Sophomore
Chloe Horton rounded out the team scoring for Bradley with an 81 and is tied for 25
th overall.
Cleveland State and Fairleigh Dickinson head into Saturday's second round 15 shots behind Bradley and 25 out of the lead in a tie for sixth at 318. Detroit is eighth overall at 323, while Prairie View A&M completes the field in ninth at 384.
The second round of the Cardinal Challenge is scheduled to tee off Saturday at 1 p.m.
