BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Sophomore
Michael Mounce fired a two-over 73 to pace the Bradley men's golf team on the final day of the Hoosier Invitational as the Braves slipped to third in the 14-team field.
Bradley entered Sunday's final round at the par-71 Indiana University Golf Course seven shots out of the lead in second behind Charlotte. The 49ers turned in the low round of the day, however, with a one-over 285 to finish at 11-under 841. Tournament-host Indiana slipped ahead of the Braves, taking second overall at seven-over 859.
Bradley was two shots back of the Hoosiers in third at 861 (+9) after turning in a final round 298 to finish two shots ahead of fourth-place Drake (863). The 861 ranks as the third lowest 54-hole team score in program history and now gives the Braves four of the five lowest 54-hole team scores in school history during the 2016-17 season.
Junior
Matthew Specht earned his second top-10 finish of the year, tying for eighth overall at even par 213 as he tied the ninth lowest 54-hole score in program history. Specht wrapped up the two-day tournament with a three-over 74.
Sophomore
Drake Bushong extended his streak of consecutive sub-80 rounds to 29 with a five-over 76. Bushong now has the most sub-80 rounds in a two-year period (61) in school history and tied for 12
th overall at 215 for his ninth top-20 finish of the season.
Junior
Ethan Brue was two shots back of Bushong in a tie for 23
rd (217) as he finished outside the top 20 of a field for the first time as a Brave. Brue carded a four-over 75 in Sunday's round, missing a spot in the top 20 by one shot.
Mounce fired the low round of the day for Bradley with his two-over 73 to climb into a tie for 32
nd (219), while junior
Zach Jewell rounded out the team scoring for Bradley in a tie for 51
st (224). Jewell finished out the tournament with a 78.
The Bradley men's golf team will have its final outing before the Missouri Valley Conference Championship later this month, when the Braves take part in the Ryman Intercollegiate in Nashville, Tenn., April 10-11.
