PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore pitcher
Cole Cook (Washington, Ill./Washington/Illinois Central) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after earning a victory Friday to help the Braves split a pair of games against Southern Illinois.
Cook scattered six hits and worked around five walks to hold SIU to just two earned runs over seven innings of work in his final regular-season outing of 2017. He tossed seven scoreless innings to start the game, before surrendering a pair of runs in the eighth. Cook struck out three in the victory to improve to 8-5 on the year. A sports communication major, Cook owns a 3.37 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Cook and the Bradley baseball team open the 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Championship Wednesday with a 12:30 p.m. game against #2 seed Dallas Baptist in Springfield, Mo.
