Dougherty Named Bradley Athlete of the Month

Freshman Brendan Dougherty of the baseball team is the Bradley Athlete of the Month, earning the honor after a fan vote for the month of April.

In 18 April games, Dougherty led the Braves with a .385 batting average and .467 on-base percentage. He also posted a team-best six doubles and scored 19 runs during the month.

The rookie collected multiple hits in eight of the 18 games, including in six of the final seven contests in April. During the seven-game run to close the month, Dougherty hit .600 with a .655 on-base percentage, reaching base at least twice in each of the games and scoring 11 runs. The highlight of the month was when the freshman helped the Braves defeat I-74 rival, Illinois State, in a three-game series. Dougherty was 9-of-12 (.750 average) in the series, scoring five runs with three doubles and two RBI.

Dougherty leads the Braves with a .333 batting average in 35 games this season. He has also scored 29 runs to go with 12 RBI and eight doubles.

Dougherty earned the Bradley Athlete of the Month accolades after a fan vote on the school's twitter account. Dougherty collected 48 percent of the vote to beat out Patrick Campbell of the men's track team (21 percent), Kealia Wysocki of softball (19 percent) and Ally Scaccia of the women's golf team (12 percent).
