PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore pitcher
Cole Cook (Washington, Ill./Washington/Illinois Central) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after tossing a complete game shutout against Evansville Saturday.
Cook blanked the Purple Aces on five hits Saturday at Dozer Park, leading the Braves to a 6-0 victory in game two of the series. His performance was the first shutout effort by a Bradley pitcher since Elliot Ashbeck blanked Southern Illinois March 27, 2015. After a two-out single in the sixth, Cook retired 10 of Evansville's final 11 hitters with the lone runner to reach during the closing stretch on an eighth-inning error. A sports communication major, Cook owns a 3.08 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Cook and the Bradley baseball team open a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series at Dallas Baptist Friday with a 6:30 p.m. game against the Patriots.
