TUCSON, AZ - Bradley third baseman Brendan Dougherty (Des Moines, IA/Dowling Catholic H.S.) continued a recent trend for the program when he became the latest Braves rookie to garner Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America honors, according to announcement by the publication Wednesday morning.

Dougherty becomes the eighth Freshmen All-American in Bradley history and the sixth Brave to receive the honor from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper since 2012, following Chris Godinez and Max Murphy in 2012, Tyler Leffler in 2013, Spencer Gaa in 2014 and Andy Shadid in 2015. In addition, Brad Altbach was a Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American in 2007, while Sean Watkins received Mizuno Freshmen All-America status in 1993.

Dougherty is one of 12 third basemen honored on the 2017 Freshmen All-American team and he is just one of two Missouri Valley Conference players (Illinois State OF John Rave) to receive the national distinction. A starter in all 45 games he played in 2017, Dougherty led the Braves with a .305 batting average, aided by his .311 average in league play. Also leading the Braves with a .387 on-base percentage, Dougherty's team-best 22 walks and one hit by pitch combined to match his season strikeouts total (23).
