PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior outside hitter Erica Haslag (Jefferson City, Mo./Helias Catholic) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after collecting 17 or more kills in each match at the season-opening EIU Panther Classic in Charleston, Ill.

Haslag averaged a league-best 4.67 kills per set to go with 3.42 digs per set in three matches at the EIU Panther Classic.  She had 20 kills to go with nine digs and three blocks to help lead Bradley to a four-set victory over Memphis in the opener.  Haslag came back the next morning to notch 17 kills and eight digs against Wisconsin-Green Bay, which is picked to finish second in the pre-season Horizon League poll.  Haslag capped the opening weekend with her first double-double of the year (19 kills & 24 digs) against tournament-host Eastern Illinois.  The 24 digs were a career-best and Haslag had the most kills by a Brave in a 20-dig outing since Nikki Pierzchala had a 20-20 performance in 2007.  An actuarial science major, Haslag owns a 3.87 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Haslag and the Bradley Volleyball team head to Muncie, Ind., this weekend for the Ball State Tournament with the Braves facing IPFW Friday at 11 a.m. (CDT) in the opener.
