Bangert's On-Base Streak Snapped at 57 Games

MADISON, WI - Bradley rising senior designated hitter Derek Bangert (Lockport, IL/Lockport Township H.S.) has been one of the offensive stars of the summer collegiate Northwoods League, highlighted by a lengthy streak of 57 consecutive games reaching base safely, a run that was snapped in his last game Tuesday night.

In his first year with the Braves after transferring from Heartland Community College, Bangert hit .278 in 2017 while leading the Braves with 14 home runs and 42 RBI's in his 45 games. Bangert joined the Northwoods League's Kenosha Kingfish May 30 and started his summer with an 0-for-3 outing. After that opener, however, Bangert reached base via a hit, walk or hit by pitch in the next 57 games. With 11 games remaining in the Northwoods League regular season, Bangert is batting .288. He ranks third in the league with 52 RBI's, tied for fifth with 10 home runs and tied for seventh by reaching base safely 109 times to date.

In addition to the 57-game regular-season streak reaching base safely, Bangert also was 2-for-2 with a home run in the Northwoods League All-Star Game July 18. He had drawn at least one walk in eight consecutive games prior to Tuesday's 0-for-5 streak-ender. His longest hitting streak of the summer was 11 games July 3-13 and his current 2-game hitless streak matches his longest of the season. He drew a walk July 31 versus Madison to stretch his streak to 57 games. During each of his two previous 2-game hitless streaks, Bangert reached base via walks and hit-by-pitches three times.
