Game Recap: Volleyball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Jamie Livaudais nearly matched a career-high, finishing with a season-best 19 kills, but pre-season Missouri Valley Conference favorite Missouri State hit .394 in the contest as Bradley ended a 10-match home stand with an 11-25, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25 loss to the Bears Saturday night at Renaissance Coliseum.

Livaudais had collected a total of five kills in Bradley's last five matches before her biggest offensive outing since her freshman season as she tallied a team and season-best 19 kills while attacking at a .486 clip.  Junior Erica Haslag joined Livaudais in double figures with 12 kills of her own and also notched a team-best 15 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.

Missouri State (10-5 overall, 2-0 MVC) got off to a hot start, hitting a combined .448 in the first two sets and held a two sets to none lead after taking the first two frames 25-11 and 25-15.  Lynsey Wright highlighted the opening two sets for the Bears with 10 kills and one error on 12 swings for a .750 attack percentage.  After a quiet first set in which she didn't have an attack, Livaudais highlighted the second set for Bradley with six kills.

Bradley (7-9 overall, 0-2 MVC) hit under .100 in the first two sets only to regroup after the break to take the third set 25-23 behind a .421 hitting percentage.  The Braves never trailed in the stanza and took control of the third with a 5-1 spurt which included three Livaudais kills to build a 22-15 advantage.  Livaudais, who had seven kills in the third, capped the run with back-to-back kills.  Bradley had set point at 24-20 on a kill by freshman Ezri Edwards, but Missouri State got three consecutive kills by Wright to pull within one at 24-23.  Haslag put the finishing touches on a 25-23 win with her third kill of the set.

The Braves jumped out to a 6-1 lead early in the fourth with Livaudais notching two more kills and sophomore Kathryn Graf adding a kill and ace.  Bradley extended the advantage to as many as six (15-9), before Missouri State would rally.  The Bears eventually tied the score at 18-18, but an attack error and block by Haslag put the Braves back in front at 20-18.

Missouri State rattled off the next four points to retake the lead at 22-20 and the Bears sided out on both of Bradley's points down the stretch to take the set 25-22.  Livaudais added six more kills in the fourth, but Missouri State hit .324 in the frame to seal the victory.

Haslag moved into 17th in career kills at Bradley with her 12-kill effort as she pushed her career total to 896 to pass Amy Reichel (895 kills).

The Bears hit .394 as a team and were led by Wright's 20 kills and .469 hitting percentage.  Lily Johnson, who broke Lindsay Stalzer's MVC career kills record Friday at Illinois State, added 19 kills and 20 digs to lead Missouri State.

Bradley will play seven of the next nine matches on the road, opening a three-match MVC road swing Monday with a 6 p.m. (CDT) match at Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind.
