PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior sprinter David Shadid (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after a record-setting performance at the first indoor meet of the season for the Bradley Track & Field team.

Shadid established the program's record in the 600 meters Saturday at the Illinois Open in Champaign, Ill., to kick off the 2018 track season.  The junior posted a time of 1:21.74 -- more than two seconds faster than his previous personal best and nearly a half second quicker than the previous school standard (1:22.19) -- to win his heat.  Shadid's record is his third at Bradley as he previously set school standards in both the 200 meters and 400 meters.  A communications (television arts) major, Shadid owns a 3.61 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Shadid and the Bradley Track & Field team are scheduled to compete Friday and Saturday at the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
