Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State forced Bradley into its highest turnover total since early December and held the Braves to 31 percent shooting as the Sycamores topped BU 65-50 Friday at the Hulman Center.  The loss snapped a three-game road win streak for Bradley, evening the team's conference record at 3-3.

Freshman Gabi Haack and sophomore Chelsea Brackmann paced Bradley (9-8 overall, 3-3 MVC) in scoring with 14 points each, while senior Shareece Burrell collected seven points, a career-high 10 rebounds and two steals all in the second half to help lead Bradley.

The Braves made 6-of-11 shots in the opening quarter, but five BU turnovers led to nine Indiana State points and the Sycamores led 19-16 after the opening 10 minutes.

Indiana State (4-13 overall, 2-4 MVC), which scored the last four points of the first quarter, had the first eight points of the second to build a 27-16 advantage in the opening minutes of the second period.  Wendi Bibbins scored eight points during the opening five minutes of the second quarter for Indiana State and had 10 points in the period.

Bradley managed to pull within seven points (29-22) with just under four minutes left in the second quarter on a long Haack baseline jumper.  The Sycamores closed the second quarter with an 8-2 run, however, to take a 37-24 lead at the half.

After not seeing the court in the first half, Burrell provided a spark off the bench early in the second half with five points and five rebounds in the first three minutes of the third.  Haack, who hit a three-pointer early in the third, pulled Bradley within eight points at 45-37 with a three-point play closing in on five minutes left in the period.

The Braves went cold from the field, though, making just one field goal in the final five minutes of the third as Indiana State built a 56-40 lead heading to the fourth with an 11-3 run to finish the frame.

Bradley's offensive struggles continued into the fourth quarter, where the Braves were 3-for-16 from the field.  Indiana State extended the lead to as many as 19 points and went on to win the contest 65-50.

"We've got to get tougher mentally and physically," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski.  "I thought Chelsea (Brackmann) played a really strong second half.  She was very active on the boards and didn't shy away.  She wanted the ball down low and it came against one of the best defensive players in our conference."

Indiana State turned 18 Bradley turnovers into 22 points and the Sycamores had a 22-8 advantage in points off turnovers on the night.  Bibbins finished with 14 points and nine rebounds to lead Indiana State.

Bradley closes out a two-game road swing Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at Evansville.
