OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Senior outside hitter Erica Haslag is one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award announced Monday.  Haslag, who is one of two Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball players up for the honor, is the first Bradley Volleyball to be named a Senior CLASS Award candidate.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The list of 30 volleyball candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the regular season and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot.  Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four "Cs" of community, classroom, character and competition.

A preseason All-Missouri Valley Conference selection, Haslag ranks third in the MVC in kills per set this fall at 3.90 and was named the MVC Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 17.  She has 20 or more kills three times this season, while helping Bradley to its best start in program history (14-2 overall).  Haslag has also helped the Braves to a 4-0 start to MVC play, marking just the third time in school history BU has opened league play with four consecutive victories.

Haslag is currently fifth in school history with 1,375 career kills and her 3.63 career kills-per-set average ranks third all-time at Bradley.  She has led the team in kills 10 times in 2018 and has 12 outings with 10 or more kills on the year.  Haslag is averaging 4.29 kills per set in MVC action this fall and is 33 kills from moving into third in career kills at BU.

An actuarial science major, Haslag owns a 3.91 cumulative grade point average and will graduate in December; earning her bachelor's degree in just three-and-a-half years.  A First-Team MVC performer in 2017, she also landed on the 2017 MVC Scholar-Athlete First-Team after earning honorable mention recognition as a sophomore.

A two-year member of the Bradley University Student Senate, Haslag has volunteered at Special Olympics events in Central Illinois in addition to assisting with the Children's Hospital of Illinois Teddy Bear Drive.  She also was part of Bradley Volleyball's service trip to Puerto Rico this past spring, where the Braves delivered supplies and assisted with clean-up efforts along with hosting youth clinics during the week-long trip.

Haslag and the Braves put their perfect MVC record on the line Friday when the Braves head to Des Moines, Iowa, for a 7 p.m. matchup at Drake.
