DES MOINES, IA – Sophomore forward Gerit Wintermeyer nodded home the golden goal with 57 seconds remaining in the first overtime, lifting Bradley (7-4-3, 1-4-0 MVC) to a 1-0 victory at Drake (6-5-3, 1-2-1 MVC) Saturday night at Cownie Soccer Complex.

The Braves entered the match in need of a result (tie or win) to keep hope alive for earning a berth in next month's Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship.  Winless (0-6-2) in their last eight trips to Des Moines since a 2002 MVC Tournament victory, Bradley came away with three huge points and now can secure one of the six postseason spots with another win in the regular-season finale Nov. 3 against Evansville at Shea Stadium.

Bradley withstood a big opening salvo from the hosts Saturday night.   The Bulldogs outshot Bradley, 12-1, in the first half.  While keeper Albert Reinwart turned away three of those shots, he also got some help from defender Nick Feeney, who headed a ball off the line on a corner kick, as well as another defender who blocked a shot around the 6-yard box for a second team save.  The right endzone's cross bar also came up big in the 45th, when Alex Petersen's header clanked off the hardware at 44:14 to keep the night scoreless.

The Braves turned up the pressure in the second half, however, and it was Drake keeper Jared Brown's time to shine.  Bradley put eight of its nine second-half shots on target, but Brown made several impressive stops among his seven saves in the second 45 minutes.  Brown also got a little help from his teammates, as Walid Kherat's shot in the 53rd minute was stopped by a team save.

The game-winning scoring sequence when Bradley's Jha'Lon Johnson won possession of a Drake clearance near midfield on the far side.  After exploring the far sideline, Johnson reversed the field with a long pass Frank Bak, about 25 yards out from goal toward the near sideline.  Bak played forward to Austin Bell on a near side overrun.  Bell then cut back toward the upper corner of the 18, where he served a cross to the penalty spot area.  Wintermeyer held his ground and put a clean head on the service to bury the winner in the top left corner at 99:03.

Before the Braves host Evansville, they will look to extend their 12-game non-conference unbeaten streak Tuesday night by visiting Oakland.  Bradley also will host in-state rival Western Illinois Saturday afternoon at Shea Stadium before welcoming the Purple Aces to town.
