Senior outside hitter Erica Haslag of the Bradley Volleyball team is one of two featured athletes features in the latest installment of the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, presented by Enterprise Bank and Trust Company.
Haslag is currently fourth in career kills at Bradley and is ninth among active players in the nation with 1,400 career kills during her time as a Brave. The 2017 First-Team All-MVC performer was recently named one of 30 national candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. She ranks third in the MVC in kills per set (3.81) and needs just eight kills to move into third all-time at Bradley.
An actuarial science major with a 3.91 cumulative grade point average, Haslag will graduate this December; earning her degree in just three-and-a-half years. This fall she helped Bradley to its best overall start in school history (14-2 overall), in addition to just the third 4-0 start to MVC Play in program history.
Haslag was part of Bradley Volleyball's service trip to Puerto Rico in May 2018, helping deliver supplies and assist with clean-up efforts in addition to taking part in youth clinics held during the team's trip. She has also spent time volunteering with Special Olympics and has visited area schools to explain the benefits of education and physical fitness. On campus, Haslag is involved with the Bradley Actuarial Science Club (Gamma Iota Sigma) and the Beta Gamma Sigma business fraternity. She has also served on the Bradley University Student Senate the past two years, serving as a rep for the overall student population.
To qualify for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes are evaluated on their campus involvement and community service.
