PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior runner Luke Hoffert (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley Men's Cross Country team to a second-place finish at last week's NCAA Midwest Regional.

Hoffert was the top finisher for the Braves, placing 12th in the field with a 10K time of 31:14.7 to help Bradley edge Tulsa by five points for second in the NCAA Regional held at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill., and earn an automatic spot in this week's NCAA Cross Country Championship.  Hoffert posted the 10th-fastest 10K time in Bradley history and was BU's top finisher in a race for the first time in his career.  The Braves earned a spot in the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history and are the first Missouri Valley Conference team to reach the NCAA Championship since 2000.  A manufacturing engineering major, Hoffert owns a 3.71 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

The NCAA Championship will be held Saturday in Madison, Wis., with the men's race slated for 11:45 a.m.
