Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – Five Braves scored in double figures, led by the first 20-point game in junior Koch Bar's career, to lead the Bradley men's basketball team to a 74-65 victory against Jacksonville State on Wednesday night. With the win, BU improves to 3-0 for the first time since in five seasons, while the Gamecocks drop to 0-3.

Bar made 7-of-8 field goals in the winning effort and 6-of-8 from the free throw line to lead Bradley with 20 points in the victory. The center also registered seven rebounds and two blocks, while sophomore Elijah Childs added 15 points and nine boards in the post as well.

Junior Darrell Brown chipped in 11 points to go with a game-high six assists, with senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye and junior Nate Kennell adding 10 points apiece.

Bradley never trailed in the winning effort with Kennell knocking down a 3-pointer just over a minute into the game to give BU the lead for good. Bradley made its first four shots from the field with Bar adding three successful free throws for a 13-8 advantage less than five minutes into the game. A 10-0 run just minutes later pushed the Bradley edge to 13 points, 23-10, as the Braves made nine of their first 14 baskets.

Jacksonville State cut the Bradley lead down to four, 25-21, but Bar sent the Braves into the locker room with a double-digit advantage – scoring the final nine points of the half for BU and giving the team a 34-23 lead at the intermission.

Bar tallied 16 of the team's 34 points in the opening 20 minutes of action as Bradley shot 56.0 percent for the 11-point lead. The Braves also held the Gamecocks in check by allowing JSU to make just 34.4 percent of its shots.

Jacksonville State would threaten the Bradley lead in the second half but the Braves responded every time. After creeping within six early in the half, Lautier-Ogunleye connected on an and-one that ignited a 7-0 BU run for a 47-34 advantage. The Gamecocks would once again pull as close as six with 6:17 remaining but a 9-0 Bradley spurt pushed the lead to 15, 65-50, and put the game out of reach.

Bradley finished the game by making a season-best 55.3 percent of its field goals in the winning effort, while Jacksonville State made 45.6 percent of its baskets.

The Braves look to continue their strong start with their first road trip of the season at UIC. Bradley aims for 4-0 in Chicago with tipoff set for 7 p.m.
