Elijah Childs Named COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Sophomore forward Elijah Childs (Kansas City, Mo./Lee's Summit West) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley Men's Basketball team to a 3-0 record last week.
 
Childs, who was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week Monday, averaged 17.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks, while shooting 63 percent from the field.  He was named MVP of the Cancun Challenge after averaging 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in victories over SMU and Penn State.  Childs opened the week with career-best totals of 21 points and 12 rebounds in a win over SMU and followed it up with 18 points in the Cancun Challenge title game against Penn State.  He finished the week with his second double-double of the season, collecting 12 points and 11 rebounds against Chicago State Saturday.  A sports communications major, Childs owns a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. 
 
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week.  The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
 
Childs and the Bradley Men's Basketball team return to action tonight, taking on IUPUI at 6 p.m. (CST) in Indianapolis, Ind.
