Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior guard Shunseere Kent and sophomore forward Nyjah White tied for game-high honors with 16 points each as four Bradley starters scored in double figures in a 91-62 exhibition victory for the Braves over visiting Quincy Saturday afternoon at Renaissance Coliseum.

Quincy scored the first points of the contest and led 5-4, before Bradley took control of the contest with a 16-2 run.  Sophomore Gabi Haack, who had 14 points in the victory, got the run started with a three-point play on a put-back basket and the BU advantage was 11-5 after a Chelsea Brackmann basket and a pair of free throws from White.

Freshman Tatum Koenig knocked down a three-pointer within five seconds of checking into the contest at the 6:20 mark on the heels of a Quincy basket and White found some space in the lane for a driving layup.  White assisted a breakaway layup by Kent and senior Vanessa Markert capped the big run with a layup as Bradley held a 20-7 lead seven minutes into the game.

The Hawks had a little run of their own, pulling within four points in the closing minute of the first quarter as the Braves held a 24-18 advantage after the opening period.

Bradley scored the first 16 points of the second quarter to put the game out of reach, however.  A Haack three-pointer opened the second and freshman Lasha Petree had a breakaway layup after a Quincy miss.  Haack added another hoop a little over one minute into the second half and a Quincy turnover led to a White layup.  Brackmann and junior college transfer Ellisha Davis both added a pair of free throws to push the BU advantage to 37-18 less than two minutes into the second quarter.

Haack scored eight of her 14 points during the run to open the second quarter, capping the spurt with another three-pointer as the Braves led 40-18 with 7:25 left to play in the first half.  Bradley went on to lead 53-37 at the half, cruising to the 91-62 victory.

White finished with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting and also had six rebounds, three assists and four steals.  Kent also had 16 points in 27 minutes.  Haack hit three of Bradley's five three-pointers, collecting 14 points and six boards, while Brackmann added a double-double with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting to go with 11 rebounds in just 15 minutes.

Bradley shot 44 percent from the field and held Quincy to 30 percent shooting.  All 15 Braves saw action before halftime and 11 different players scored for Bradley with the reserves combining for 28 points.

Alexa Low and Taylor Hickey paced Quincy with 10 points each.

Bradley will open the 2018-19 regular season next Saturday, hosting Southeast Missouri State in a 7 p.m. contest at Renaissance Coliseum.
