Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – Junior center Koch Bar scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Bradley men's basketball team to a 74-58 victory in its opener against UW-Parkside at Caver Arena.

Four Braves scored in double figures as Bradley led wire-to-wire in the victory. Sophomore Elijah Childs added 17 points and eight boards to Bar's 19 points and seven rebounds as BU scored 46 points in the paint and held an 18-2 advantage in second-chance points on the night.

Senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye tallied 12 points to go with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals, while junior Darrell Brown added 10 points for the Braves.

Bradley scored the first 12 points in the game and never gave the lead back in the 16-point victory. The team scored 10 of its first 12 in the paint to take control – with the other two points from the free-throw line – and forced the Rangers into missing their first six shots to go along with two turnovers in grabbing the early advantage.

The Braves stretched the lead to as many as 13 in the opening 20 minutes and headed into the locker room with a 40-28 advantage thanks to a 9-0 run to close the half. Bar scored 16 of his 19 in the first stanza as the Braves used a 26-9 edge on the boards to claim the lead at the intermission.

Bradley once again started the second half strong and scored the first eight points to quickly stretch the advantage to 20, 48-28. After a scoreless first half, Brown netted 10 of the team's first 12 points of the period as the Rangers were never within 16 the rest of the game.

Overall, Bradley shot 47.6 percent in the season-opening victory, while the Rangers made 42.6 percent of their baskets.

Bradley is back in action on Saturday with a home game against Southeast Missouri State. Game time at Carver Arena is set for 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Bar's previous career high was 17, set against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 29, 2016 … Bar led the team in scoring after not doing so once as a sophomore … Bradley has won its last four season openers and eight of its last nine … Bradley's 16-point victory is its largest in a season opener since a 76-53 win against Eastern Illinois in 2013 … Both Childs and Lautier-Ogunleye set career highs with four steals in the winning effort.
