Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – The Bradley men's basketball team dropped a 79-74 decision to host Georgia Southern on Tuesday night. The Braves are now 7-5 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 8-3.

Junior Nate Kennell led the Braves with 17 points off the bench, connecting on 6-of-13 field goals, including five 3-pointers. Senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye and junior Darrell Brown also reached double figures, scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively.

The Braves used a strong start to the game to take a lead into the intermission. Trailing 12-5 eight minutes into the game, Bradley used a 21-1 run over the next six minutes to claim a 26-13 advantage. The Braves made eight-straight field goals during the stretch – which included a 17-0 run – while forcing the Eagles into eight-straight misses and four turnovers.

Georgia Southern, however, responded with an 8-0 run of its own before creeping to within two at the intermission, 30-28.

Bradley maintained its lead early in the second half and stretched its advantage to as many as eight points following back-to-back triples from Brown and Kennell, giving BU a 46-38 advantage with 13:11 left. Georgia Southern would score the next eight points to tie the game for the first time in the second half and eventually pulled ahead by as many as six points, 59-53, with 2:53 remaining.

The Braves would fight back, however. Starting with the defense – which held a team averaging nearly 90 points a game to just 59 in regulation – Bradley did not allow another point in regulation to the Eagles. Kennell added a 3-pointer to cut the deficit in half before Koch Bar connected on a layup for a one-point game. Bradley tied the contest on a free throw with 60 seconds remaining and both teams had looks in the final 20 seconds to win the game but couldn't find the go-ahead shot.

In overtime, Georgia Southern used a 6-0 run with under two minutes to break a 68-68 tie and Bradley would only pull as close as four the remainder of the contest.

The Braves shot 45.8 percent with a 7-of-19 mark from beyond the arc. Georgia Southern, meanwhile, made 45.5 percent of its attempts and 5-of-18 from beyond the arc, including both of its attempts from 3-point range in overtime.

Bradley wraps up non-conference action on Saturday at home against Southeastern Louisiana. Game time at Carver Arena is set for 1 p.m.

Game Notes: Brown extended his double-digit scoring streak to 12 games – the only Valley player to score at least 10 points in each of his team's games this season … Bradley played an overtime game for the first time since defeating Eastern Illinois in 2016 … The Braves were whistled for a season-high 31 fouls with Georgia Southern holding a 39-20 advantage in free throw attempts … The home team has won all six games in the series with Bradley holding a 4-2 advantage.
