Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – Junior Darrell Brown sunk a 3-pointer with just 4.1 seconds remaining to give the Bradley men's basketball team a 63-60 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday afternoon. The Braves wrap up non-conference play with an 8-5 record, while the Lions drop to 4-8 on the season.

The Braves trailed by five points, 60-55, with under two minutes remaining before Brown and sophomore Elijah Childs took over for BU – each tallying four points in a final 8-0 run. Childs started with a jumper to pull Bradley within three before Brown made 1-of-2 from the charity stripe for the 60-58 contest with 1:27 remaining. Childs then came up big on the defensive end with a block on a Lions layup attempt before connecting on his sixth field goal with 57.9 seconds left to tie the game.

Bradley forced its 20th turnover of the game with just over 30 seconds remaining and called a timeout to set up the final play. Senior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye pumped fake from the corner, drove toward the basket and found Brown open on the wing. The junior then calmly sunk his third triple of the game for the 3-point victory.

Brown led the Braves with 19 points on the day. Childs added 15 points and team-best eight rebounds, while junior Koch Bar also chipped in 15 points to go with six boards.

The teams played a tight opening half with neither squad leading by more than a single possession for the first 10 minutes. Southeastern Louisiana started strong from long range, making eight of its first 11 3-point attempts to gain some breathing room with a 24-16 lead. The Braves responded with a 6-0 run and eventually pulled within a single point at the break, 28-27.

Bradley scored the first three points of the second half but Southeastern Louisiana answered with a 7-0 run for a lead it would not give up until the closing seconds. The Lions' edge would reach as many as six points, 55-49, but the Braves never let it get out of reach, setting up the late heroics and game-winning 8-0 run to finish the victory.

The Braves made 34.0 percent of their baskets in the winning effort, including a 43.5 percent clip after the intermission. Bradley also forced the Lions into 20 miscues with Southeastern Louisiana making 42.6 percent of its baskets (and just 3-of-12 from 3-point range after the hot start).

Bradley now turns its attention toward Missouri Valley Conference play when it opens up the conference season against Northern Iowa on Wednesday, Jan. 2. Tipoff at Carver Arena is set for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Bradley improved to 8-0 when allowing 70 or fewer points (0-5 when allowing more) … The Braves are forcing a Valley-best 15.8 turnovers per game … Brown scored at least 10 points in every non-conference game this season – the only Valley player to do so in each of his team's games … Bar made a career-best 11 free throws (in 13 attempts) – previous high was seven … The schools were meeting for the first time.
