Carbondale, Ill. – Southern Illinois shot 64.0 percent in the second half, including a 7-of-10 mark from 3-point range, to break open a tie game with a 74-57 victory on Sunday afternoon. The Braves are now 17-10 this season with a 7-7 Missouri Valley Conference record, while the Salukis win for the sixth time in seven games and improve to 17-10 and 9-5 in league play.

Sophomore Jayden Hodgson led the Braves with 12 points, while classmates Darrell Brown and Nate Kennell each added 11. Senior Donte Thomas just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

The teams traded blows in the first half as the opening stanza featured 12 lead changes and eight ties. The Braves weathered an early storm as a 9-0 SIU run turned a five-point deficit into a four-point lead, 15-11. Bradley then held the Salukis without a point for nearly five minutes of action as neither school would lead by more than two points the rest of the period before settling for a 29-29 tie at the break.

In the second period, Bradley made its first three baskets for a 36-33 advantage but the Salukis responded with their hottest stretch of the game to grab the lead for good. SIU made all five of its attempts from 3-point range during a 19-4 run, taking a 52-40 lead with 12:38 remaining. The Braves would pull within seven on a number of occasions but one final 12-2 stretch to finish the game secured the victory for the host Salukis.

Southern Illinois shot 56.5 percent overall from the field with a 57.1 percent mark from 3-point range. Bradley made 38.2 percent of its shots with a 7-of-24 performance from beyond the arc.

The Braves return to action on Wednesday, hosting I-74 rival Illinois State. Bradley welcomes the Redbirds to Carver Arena with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Southern Illinois' 57.1 percent shooting from 3-point range is the highest by a Bradley opponent this season … Bradley is now 5-7 this season when making fewer 3-pointers than its opponent (12-3 with the same or more triples) … The Braves also drop to 5-10 when allowing 70 or more points (15-3 with 69 or fewer) and have allowed four of their last five opponents to hit the mark … The home team has won 10 of the last 11 meetings between the two schools.
