Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Valparaiso, Ind. – A 21-0 run in the final six minutes swung the game in favor of Valparaiso, who earned a 77-64 victory on Saturday night. The loss evens Bradley's Missouri Valley Conference record at 8-8 with an 18-11 overall record, while the Crusaders improve to 14-15 and 5-11 against league foes.

Three Braves scored in double figures, led by senior Donte Thomas' 19 points. Sophomore Darrell Brown added 16 points to go with five assists, while rookie Elijah Childs had 14.

It was a dominant defensive start for the Braves that gave BU the lead for most of the game. Bradley allowed Valparaiso to make only two field goals in the first 16 minutes of action as the Crusaders shot 16.7 percent to start the game to mix with eight turnovers. The Braves lead in the first half reached as many as 10 points, 27-17, with 3:17 remaining before a late Valparaiso surge sent the teams into the locker room with Bradley ahead by five, 31-26.

The second half, however, would be a different story. Valparaiso made 73.9 percent of its baskets in the final 20 minutes of action, connecting on 17-of-23 field goals in addition to a 6-of-8 mark from 3-point range. With Bradley holding on to a four-point lead, 60-56, with 5:56 remaining, the Crusaders scored the next 21 points over five minutes of action en route to the 77-64 victory.

With just two games remaining in regular-season action, Bradley looks to quickly regroup with its final road game of the season at Missouri State. The schools are set to tip off on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Game Notes: The home team has won all five games in the series as the schools split the season series in Valparaiso's first year in the conference … Bradley lost for just the second time this season when holding a halftime lead (now 16-2) … The Braves are now 0-7 in MVC action when shooting under 40 percent, accounting for seven of the team's eight conference losses.
