Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Peoria, Ill. – A 15-2 second-half run keyed Drake's 78-68 victory over the Bradley men's basketball team on Saturday night. The loss snapped the Braves' four-game winning streak and 14-game run at Carver Arena as BU is now 17-8 on the year and 7-5 in Missouri Valley Conference action. The Bulldogs improved to 13-12 and 7-5 versus league foes.

Senior Donte Thomas and freshman Elijah Childs each registered a double-double for BU. Thomas had 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Childs collected 10 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Darrell Brown led the Braves with 20 points with also registering eight assists for the fourth-straight game.

In a very tight contest, neither team led by more than five points before the decisive run in the second half. In the opening stanza, Drake earned an early 13-8 edge but Bradley battled back and took a late 30-29 lead. The Bulldogs, however, entered the intermission with a 36-33 advantage.

The teams would trade the advantage in the opening eight minutes of the second half with Bradley pulling ahead by two, 50-48. However, the Bulldogs outscored BU, 15-2 over a five-minute stretch to pull ahead by 11, 63-52. Drake made 4-of-8 field goals with two triples and five free throws during the run, while Bradley scored once in eight possessions.

The run proved to be the difference as the lead would bounce between eight and 12 points the remainder of the game before Drake finished with the 78-68 victory.

The Bulldogs shot 47.1 percent from the field with a 9-of-22 mark from 3-point range, while Bradley made 37.3 percent of its shots and 5-of-26 from beyond the arc.

The Braves look to return to their winning ways on Wednesday with a road contest at Northern Iowa. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Game Notes: Bradley's 14-game home-court winning streak was the team's longest since 2006 … Brown is the first Brave with eight assists in four-straight games since Anthony Manuel finished the 1987-88 season with nine-straight contests of at least eight … Bradley had two players register a double-double for the first time since Thomas and Ronnie Suggs on March 3, 2016 against Loyola … The Braves lost for the first time this season when making at least 14 free throws in a game (were 13-0).
