Game Recap: Men's Basketball |
Cedar Falls, Iowa – A key second-half run lifted Northern Iowa past the Bradley men's basketball team, 74-65, on Wednesday night. The Braves are now 17-9 and 7-6 in Missouri Valley Conference action, while the Panthers move to 12-13 and 4-9 in league play.

Junior Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye scored a season-high 19 points in defeat. Senior Donte Thomas and sophomore Darrell Brown also scored in double figures with 18 and 12 points, respectively.

Lautier-Ogunleye carried the Braves during a tight first half, finishing the opening stanza with 13 points. His total during the first 20 minutes of action doubled his scoring average for the year and matched his season high. As a team, the Braves found themselves down by two points at the intermission, 32-30, as neither team led by more than five.

The Braves started strong in the second half and raced to the early advantage. Bradley scored 11 points in under four minutes of action to grab the lead, 41-36, before stretching its advantage to as many as six points.

However, with the Braves ahead, 48-42, with 13:19 remaining, Northern Iowa used a 17-4 run over a five-minute span to pull in front, 59-52. The Braves would cut their deficit to four a couple of occasions but the Panthers made eight free throws in the final minute of action for the 74-65 victory.

Bradley shot 42.2 percent in the contest but made just 2-of-13 from beyond the arc. The Panthers made 43.5 percent of their buckets with an 8-of-21 mark from 3-point range.

The Braves, who remain just a half game back of third place in the standings, travel to second-place Southern Illinois on Sunday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

Game Notes: Bradley's shooting percentage of 42.2 is the team's highest in an MVC loss this year and the highest in any loss since shooting 45.5 percent in a one-point defeat to Vermont on Nov. 17 … In their last three defeats, Bradley has shot 17.9 percent from 3-point range (12-67) … Lautier-Ogunleye has scored at least nine points in six of the last seven games (did so three times in the first 17 games).
