Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Senior Danielle Brewer scored a team-high 14 points and dished out four assists, while freshman Gabi Haack reached double figures for the 13th time on the year with 13 points, but Bradley couldn't keep pace with Missouri State as the Bears downed the Braves 74-54 Friday at JQH Arena.

Bradley (11-12 overall, 5-7 MVC) trailed 9-8 with 2:37 to play in the first quarter on a Haack, before Missouri State (13-10 overall, 9-3 MVC) ended the opening period with a 10-0 run.  Aubrey Buckley opened the run for the Bears with four straight points and Emily Gartner added four of her own to help Missouri State to a 19-8 lead 10 minutes into the contest.  The Braves were 3-for-11 from the field and had six turnovers in the first quarter.

The Braves kept Missouri State scoreless for the first 4:30 of the second quarter and Bradley scored the first seven points of the frame to pull within four at 19-15.  The Bears answered with back-to-back three-pointers, however, to push the lead back to double digits (25-15) with 4:20 left in the first half.

Missouri State held Bradley without a field goal for a four-and-a-half minute stretch, pushing the advantage to as many as 16 points and led 32-19 at the break.

"They took our inside game away and we might have rushed things a little when our three's weren't falling early," said Bradley head coach Andrea Gorski.  "We just didn't execute tonight.  We are a better offensive team than what we showed.  They had several players get hot and we had trouble locking down defensively."

The Bears opened the third quarter with a 12-2 run to extend the lead to 44-21 less than four minutes into the second half.  Junior Vanessa Markert capped a 12-1 Bradley spurt with four consecutive points as the Braves pulled within 12 points at 45-33 with 2:23 to play in the third as BU held Missouri State without a field goal for a five-minute span.  Bradley was unable to cut anymore into the MSU lead with the Bears building a 16-point edge (53-36) at the end of the third quarter.  Missouri State went on to win the contest 74-54.

After committing 10 first-half turnovers, Bradley had just five in the second half and the Braves were 12-for-28 from the field in the final 20 minutes on the heels of shooting 30 percent in the first half.

Liza Fruendt led Missouri State with 22 points to pace three Lady Bears in double figures.  The Bears outrebounded Bradley 40-30 behind a double-double by Buckley (10 points and 10 rebounds).

Bradley closes out a two-game road swing Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. game at Southern Illinois.
