Game Recap: Women's Basketball |
MOLINE, Ill. – Three's were wild early in Thursday's Missouri Valley Conference opening round game between Bradley and Evansville, with freshman Gabi Haack hitting five first-half trey's en route to a 20-point effort to help the Braves to a 77-49 victory over the Purple Aces at the TaxSlayer Center.

Bradley (13-17 overall) surpassed its win total from the 2016-17 season and advances to Friday's 6 p.m. quarterfinal matchup against #2 seed Missouri State with the victory.

Evansville (3-27 overall) got off to a solid start, leading 9-4 a little over three minutes into the contest and the Purple Aces led 11-8 near the midway point of the first quarter before Haack took over.  She had her own personal 9-0 run, hitting three consecutive three-pointers in less than two minutes and assisted a Chelsea Brackmann breakaway hoop.

Haack followed the Brackmann basket with her fourth three-pointer of the first quarter and for good measure had a layup in the closing minute as she accounted for 14 points during a 16-0 Bradley run to end the period.  She scored 15 points in the opening 10 minutes of the game to help the Braves to a 24-11 advantage.

Evansville scored the first points of the second quarter, only to have Bradley answer with a 9-0 run as the Braves extended the lead to 33-13.  Junior Vanessa Markert had a basket in the lane and a pair of free throws to spark the spurt.  Haack would later add her fifth three-pointer of the game in the late stages of the second, finishing with 20 first-half points to outscore Evansville in the first 20 minutes and help the Braves to a 42-19 halftime lead.

A 12-2 run midway through the third quarter, which featured five Braves scoring, put the game out of reach as Bradley built a 31-point lead en route to the convincing 77-49 victory.

The Braves connected on 9-of-20 three-pointers, including seven of 14 in the first half, and finished with a season-low seven turnovers.  Haack scored all 20 of her points in the first half for the first 20-point half by a Bradley player since Kelsey Budd had 20 points in the first half of a game at Western Illinois on Dec. 21, 2012.

Fellow freshman Nyjah White joined Haack in double figures with 10 points in just 12 minutes as freshmen combined for 39 of Bradley's 77 points.  Sophomore Chelsea Brackmann pulled down 13 rebounds to help the Braves to a 47-32 rebounding advantage and also added six points, four assists, three blocks and four steals in just 16 minutes off the bench.

Bradley advances to the MVC Tournament Quarterfinals and will face #2 seed Missouri State Friday in a 6 p.m. game at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline, Ill.
