PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior pitcher Alex Gray (Marysville, Wash./Marysville Pilchuck) has been named the Bradley COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week after helping Bradley Baseball lock up a series win against Indiana State last weekend.
Gray entered Sunday's series finale against the Sycamores to start the fourth with the Braves trailing, 5-3 and went on to finish out the game; allowing one unearned run on four hits with one walk and a career-best seven strikeouts in a career-high six innings. Although he has not started a game this season, Gray has averaged nearly 4.0 innings in his eight relief appearances and he is 5-0 to date this season. In his five wins, Gray has worked at least 2.0 IP in all five outings without allowing more than one run. An actuarial science major, Gray owns a 3.43 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the COUNTRY Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Gray and the Bradley Baseball team return to action Wednesday night, taking on Saint Louis in a 6 p.m. game in St. Louis, Mo.
