Hoffert Earns All-MVC Honors Day One

Terre Haute, Ind. – Sophomore Jake Hoffert opened the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championship on a high note for the Bradley track teams, earning all-conference honors in the 10,000m run as one of three Braves to finish in the top four of the event.

On a hot day in Indiana, Hoffert finished as the runner up in the 10,000m with a time of 31:38.54 – just over seven seconds behind Indiana State's Akis Medrano. Hoffert collected All-MVC accolades and is the first Brave to finish in the top two of the 10,000m since Rich Smith placed second in 1985. Junior Will Anderson also scored for the Braves, crossing the finish line in fourth place in 31:46.33.

Senior Hannah Witczak joined Hoffert and Anderson in the top five by placing fourth in the only track final of the night. Witczak ran the 10,000m in a time of 37:09.59 to lead the Braves on the opening day of action, while sophomore Abby Jockisch also placed in the top 10 by finishing ninth in 38:12.29.

In addition to the 10,000m final, the Braves ran in the 1,500m prelims on Friday. Four men qualified with Taylor Floyd Mews recording the top time of all competitors on the day in 4:00.47. Mike Bianchina (4:00.66), Cole Barkocy (4:01.60) and Haran Dunderdale (4:03.62) will join Floyd Mews in the final as the Braves have four of the league's 10 qualifiers.

Junior Brooke Nusser also qualified for the Bradley women in the 1,500m as she ran a time of 4:47.51 to reach Sunday's final.

After one day of competition, the Bradley men are fifth of nine teams, while the BU women are seventh of 10 schools.

The action resumes for the Braves tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. CT. Bradley is slated to compete in the 3,000m steeplechase final as well as the prelims for the 400m hurdles and 800m run on day two of the championship meet.
