MOREHEAD CITY, NC – Bradley junior third baseman Brendan Dougherty (Des Moines, IA/Dowling Catholic H.S.) helped Morehead City cap its historic season with its first Coastal Plain League Petitt Cup Championship late last week.

The starting third baseman in 48 of Morehead City's 52 games, Dougherty helped the Marlins to the summer collegiate league's East Division title, a share of the 16-team league's best record and its first league title by driving in a team-best 28 runs.   He also tied for second in the league with 36 bases on balls.  Dougherty finished the regular season by reaching base safely in 17 of the final 18 games, then kept the streak alive through Morehead City's four playoff games by hitting .333 (5-for-15) with three walks.  He was 3-for-4 in the title-clinching game Friday night, a 7-4 victory against High Point-Thomasville.

The 2017 Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, Dougherty has earned honorable mention All-MVC recognition at third base in each of his first two seasons with the Braves.  Bradley's starting third baseman in 96 games the past two years, Dougherty will enter his junior season with a .315 career batting average.

Dougherty was joined on the Morehead City roster by Bradley shortstop Luke Shadid through mid-July.  In his 25 games in the CPL, Shadid hit .253 with two home runs and eight RBI's.
