Game Recap: Soccer |
PEORIA, IL – Junior Roman Schindler scored a pair of goals, including one with just two seconds remaining in regulation, to lead the Bradley soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Oral Roberts on a hot Sunday afternoon. The Braves are now 1-0-1 after the first weekend of the season, while the Golden Eagles drop to 1-1-0.

In the closing minute of the contest, Oral Roberts had a golden opportunity on a counterattack but Junior Chavez saw his shot hit the crossbar with just less than 60 seconds remaining. Bradley, who controlled possession in the second half, took advantage on the other end. Sophomore Younes Dayekh gathered a loose ball toward the sideline and sent a cross into the box as the clocked ticked down to zero. Schindler then headed the ball toward net that deflected off the goalie and in for the game-winning tally with just two seconds left – the latest game-winning goal in regulation in school history (previous record was 13 seconds by Jason Herrera in 1993).

Schindler didn't just star in the closing minute of the game as the junior also gave Bradley the early lead with his first goal of the season. After a pair of quick passes from Jha'Lon Johnson and Gerit Wintermeyer, Schindler found himself wide open at the center of the box and finished to the lower right for the 1-0 advantage in the 18th minute of play.

The Golden Eagles struck back and knotted the contest at one in the 36th minute. After a restart near mindfield, Alex Torres found himself open on the wing, finishing high and near post for the 1-1 score before Schindler's late heroics.

Bradley outshot the Golden Eagles, 19-10, in the contest, while holding a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Redshirt junior Albert Reinwart earned his first collegiate victory in goal for the Braves, making four saves. Miles Motakef finished with six stops in the loss for Oral Roberts.

Bradley is back in action next weekend with its first road game of the season. The Braves square off at IUPUI on Friday at 4 p.m.
